I love wings, but, in my past attempts with various cooking methods, I have not been able to get them as crispy as I would like. When I got an air fryer, I knew I wanted to try wings, but I never got around to it. This weekend, the day finally came, and I don't think I can look back. I was craving orange chicken, so I decided to make a healthier version of the sticky glaze it's normally tossed in and y'all. I could eat this sauce by the spoonful. I added it to some wontons that I served with the wings, but you could totally make it a dipping sauce too.

INGREDIENTS

1 lb of organic party wings
2 1/4 c orange juice (you could use bottled juice, but I juiced approx. 8 oranges)
1 tsp chili oil, more or less to taste
2 tsp soy sauce
2 tbsp honey
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp ground ginger

DIRECTIONS

  1. At least 1 hour or preferably overnight, lay the wings on a baking rack on a sheet pan. Pat dry with paper towel and put in the fridge to dry out. This will help the wings get extra crispy.
  2. Combine everything except the wings in a medium sauce pan. Simmer on medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes until thickened. Set aside to cool. (it will thicken more as it cools)
  3. Place the wings in a even layer in the air fryer. Air fry at 380 for 25 minutes. After 10-12 minutes, shake the basket every five minutes to ensure even crisping.
  4. Remove the wings from the air fryer and place in a bowl. Toss the wings in the sauce and serve.
